Cira started out as my Celeste pattern. I cut the doll out of white muslin and assembled her according to Celeste’s instructions. I did give her fingers of fabric instead of beads. The arm/hand pattern is at the end of this article.
Once the doll was sewn and stuffed I painted her with Jacquard ® Dye-Na-Flow paints in two shades of blue. I used Cerulean Blue and Azure Blue. I also added some Pearl Blue Jacquard ® Lumiere paint sparingly to add a touch of sparkle.
I cut a piece of the white muslin three to four times the width of the dolls base and long enough to fit as a long skirt on the finished doll; approximately 36 inches wide by 12 inches long. Once I had this fabric cut, I spritzed it with water until damp and painted it with blue and yellow Jacquard ® Dye-Na-Flow paints leaving some white showing on the fabric. I used Azure Blue, Periwinkle, Golden Yellow and Sun Yellow. I then let it dry completely on a flat surface.
I used many shades of blue and yellow/gold threads on the finished doll. You should use at least six, three yellow and three blue to achieve the textual look you can only get by layering shades of colors together. With this in mind, pick out several shades of blue and several shades of yellow or gold threads...or threads in any color you desire.
Before you start sewing, take a minute to clean your machine of lint.
